Privacy Policy
How we handle your personal information — and your rights over it.
Last updated: [Month YYYY] · Version 1.0
1.Who we are
Africa We Want is an initiative of Vision to Impact Foundation ("we", "us", "our"), registered in Ghana (No. [TBC]), [registered address, Accra]. We are the data controller for your personal information and are registered with Ghana's Data Protection Commission ([DPC registration no. — TBC]). We handle personal data under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) and the right to privacy in Article 18(2) of the 1992 Constitution, and we support the principles of the African Union's Malabo Convention. Privacy questions: [privacy@yourdomain].
2.The information we collect
Information you give us: when you apply or use our enquiry, sponsorship, affiliate or newsletter forms — name, email, country, age, organisation, your message; and for under-18s, a parent/guardian's name, email and consent.
Participation: if you take part in a talk, event or workshop, we may record audio, video and photographs of you per the consent given.
Collected automatically: limited technical data (device/browser, general usage) and cookies.
3.Children and young people
We take particular care with young people's data. We obtain parent/guardian consent before anyone under 18 takes part, including for filming and how their name/image is published. We collect the minimum needed and apply the Children's Act, 1998 (Act 560) and our Safeguarding Policy alongside this notice.
4.How and why we use it
To process applications/enquiries; run programmes and events; record and publish talks (with consent); send updates you opted into; understand and improve the site; and meet legal and safeguarding obligations.
Our lawful bases under Act 843 are: your consent; steps taken at your request; our legitimate interests; and compliance with legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time.
5.When we share it
We do not sell your information. We share it only with trusted service providers (website hosting & database e.g. Supabase, form handling, email, and video hosting via YouTube/Google), as needed — and where required by law or to protect a child at risk.
6.International transfers
We operate across Africa and beyond, so your information may be processed outside your home country. We make any cross-border transfer with appropriate safeguards, consistent with Act 843 and the Malabo Convention.
7.Cookies & embedded content
We use a few cookies to run the site and understand usage. Videos embed from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode; YouTube may still set cookies once you play a video (governed by Google's policy). Control cookies via your browser.
8.Retention
We keep information only as long as needed, then delete or anonymise it. Application/enquiry records: [retention period] unless a longer period is legally required.
9.Your rights
Access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and withdrawal of consent. Contact [privacy@yourdomain].
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to Ghana's Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.org.gh); if you are elsewhere, contact your local data-protection authority.
10.Security and breaches
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures and limit access to those who need it. If a breach occurs, we will, as soon as reasonably practicable, notify the Data Protection Commission and affected individuals and act to restore the integrity of our systems (Act 843, s.31).
11.Changes
We may update this policy and will post changes here with a new date.
